If you are going to construct a steel structure, you must follow my points.
Vanakam, my name is Madhanashree. I am a structural engineer.
First, whatever you do, you must plan it. It is technically called GFC drawings, i.e., good-for-construction drawings. Do not start the project without this set of drawings.
Second, in your fabrication drawings, prepare shop drawings and erection drawings so that your fabrication and erection will be flawless.
Third, check if the steel members and accessories like bolts, nuts, washers, and connection plates are in the grades recommended by your structural engineers.
Fourth, plan in advance where you are going to fabricate and how you are going to transport it to your construction site.
Fifth, calibrate the erection machinery and equipment before you start the erection.
Sixth, ensure that the manpower you hire is qualified and trained, so that not only on-time completion but also your wastage can be reduced.
Let it be your structural members’ surface preparation, painting, inspection reports, or yard.
Seventh, prepare a test report on how you have done the surface preparation, painting, and welding quality check for each member you are going to use.
Eighth, do not erect without the help of a digital surveyor. This will avoid major losses.
