Descriptions:

Even though there is a lot of awareness on social media that a soil test should be done before constructing a building, many clients still ask whether digging 6 to 7 feet into the ground is enough. In this video, I will explain the answer.

My name is Madhanashree, and I am a structural engineer.

Without conducting a proper soil test, you will not know the safe bearing capacity of the soil. You will not understand the nature of the soil, how it behaves under load, or how deep the groundwater table is. If these factors are unknown, it becomes impossible to determine how many foundation layers are required, what the foundation size should be, and what type of footing is suitable.

No structural engineer can accurately design a safe foundation without soil investigation data. When soil testing is ignored, the chances of settlement cracks increase significantly. In severe cases, it can even lead to structural failure or collapse.

If you are planning to construct a building, do not begin construction without a proper soil test. The cost of a soil test is only about 0.2% of the total building cost. Avoiding it can lead to much higher repair or reconstruction expenses later.
