When industries are facing challenges in harmonics and power factor non-compliance, they think of going for the new panel. Instead of going for the new panel, I can give the alternative solution which will be very cost effective and it will give the optimal solutions almost equal to the new panel. I will explain in detail what it is.
Few industries which are old, can be three years or five years, they have installed the power factor panel at the time of inception of their factory with the plain capacitors. Normally, the plain capacitors have the tendency to amplify the harmonics which leads to the non-compliance of the harmonics also. Now, the electricity board emphasizes on the compliance of power factor as well as harmonics standards.
So, most of the industries are struggling a lot to maintain the harmonics within the limit and the compliance of the power factor also with the power factor panel. I can say the cost effective solution is to overcome this issue is by way of retrofitting the existing panel. First, let us understand the concept of retrofitting.
We will inspect the power factor panel and we will make use of the available resources like the panel with the healthy components and we will list out what are the defective and degraded components within the panel and we will replace the plain capacitors with 525 volt capacitor banks with the suitable reactors. Then, we will replace the defective and degraded components with the new components. So, once we complete this work, we will ensure that the power factor panel will operate in such a way that to bring the power factor close to unity.
With this solution, we can save almost 40 to 50 percentage of cost instead of going for the new panels. If there is no space in the existing power factor panel, then we can go for the new panel for accommodating the reactors separately in the panel that can be attached to the existing power factor panel. This type of solution we have done more than 100 plus industries and we help the customers to overcome this harmonics and power factor issues.
