CRM is overhyped. Many people think having a CRM will automatically solve their sales problems. I’m Lavanya Udayakumar, a sales coach.

How many businesses actually know their conversion rate? You cannot manage what you cannot measure. If you cannot track the conversion rate from lead to win, your business is essentially playing a guessing game — and guessing is a bad habit in sales.

The real problem is that no one knows what’s happening in the sales funnel. Inconsistent updates and unclear stages for each quote mean that just having a CRM will not solve your sales problem.

Here is the solution:

Clearly define each stage of your sales funnel.
Typically, it could include: leads → qualification → requirement clearance → proposal → negotiation → closure.

Each stage change needs a valid explanation. If there is no clear explanation, the stage change should not be allowed, and it should be reviewed in the daily meeting.

During monthly review meetings, you’ll know exactly at which stage your deals are dying and can take effective action.

Do this for seven days and re-tag your entire pipeline according to these stages to see where your money is leaking.
