Most of the industries will maintain the power factor effectively during working conditions. Whereas, when there is a production shutdown or during weekend, when load is not there, the power factor will be dipped, intending to have a huge impact on the average power factor. By improving the power factor during no load conditions, we can definitely achieve the average power factor close to unity.
I will explain you how to do it. During no load conditions, the power factor controller will not get the required sensing current from the current transformer. When it does not get a sensing current, the power factor will not be regulated, so that the average power factor will not be maintained.
This is a problem most of the industries are facing during the time of production shutdown and no load conditions. I will see how to solve it. First, we can do audit during no load conditions.
We can identify what exactly the KVR compensation is required during no load conditions. That KVR will be the minimum bank which can be installed as a fixed capacitor bank that the maintenance team can be switched on manually during weekends, so that the power factor will be maintained throughout the period. Again, when production starts, if the manual bank is not required, the maintenance team can switch off the capacitor banks, so that the power factor will be maintained throughout the period and it will assure the effective maintenance of the average power factor uniformly, so that the purpose of achieving the power factor close to unity will always be assured.
Normally, the transformer losses and no load losses are invisible till the industries will pay penalty to the electricity board. But the industries are making focus on this parameter to identify the transformer loss and no load losses and fix some minimum KVR banks to compensate the power factor during the weekends and improve the power factor and maintain the average power factor uniformly throughout the period. That will give the best results in achieving the power factor close to unity.
