Majority of the machinery breakdowns happen because of one reason, and this is the reason where more than 50% of machinery breakdown happens, and that reason is called misalignment. I am going to explain the common methods used in industries for correcting misalignment, which I normally don’t recommend.

These things happen when the equipment operates in a misaligned condition. If it is a pulley-driven equipment, there could be a belt failure, there could be a pulley failure. And if it is a directly coupled equipment, there could be a coupling failure, there could be a bearing failure, and sometimes it may lead to unplanned downtime.
Now, let’s discuss the commonly used misalignment correction methods in industries. First is the drill ruler, which I strongly do not recommend.
Second is the dial gauge method. In the dial gauge method, it takes a lot of time for misalignment corrections. Also, accuracy can be achieved only using very skilled manpower. It’s not easy, so I don’t recommend this method either.
Now, I will explain the one and the best method which I recommend to a lot of my customers for misalignment corrections, and that is the laser shaft alignment tool and laser belt alignment tool. Both these tools can be easily operated by anybody. Even a person who can use a mobile phone can easily operate this machine.
Second, this is highly accurate and consumes very less time. Generally, people think buying these tools is an expense, but I would call it an investment. By investing a few lakhs, you are going to save crores of rupees.
