Normally, the majority of manufacturing industries would have bought their machines at least 10 to 20 years back from the OEM. Once the OEM warranty gets over, some customers start facing bearing failures or a drop in equipment performance.
First, let’s understand why this happens. When customers try to run equipment at maximum speed or increase the load to the maximum capacity to achieve higher production, there is definitely a possibility of bearing failure. And when the bearing fails, ultimately the equipment also fails.
This is exactly the same challenge the cement plant was facing.
When we conducted a complete study of the equipment, we found that they were using a white metal bearing. Whenever the equipment was overloaded, the bearing would heat up, forcing the machine to shut down.
After a detailed design study, we recommended replacing the white metal bearing with an anti-friction bearing.
Once the customer made this change, their production increased significantly, and they were able to run the equipment continuously for longer periods. This solution has been working successfully for the past 10 years.
