Descriptions:

When you build a building, you need two types of drawings.

One is architectural drawing.

The other is structural drawing.

Architectural drawing is the detailing of the looks and functionality of a building.

Structural drawing is the detailing of the things inside the building. For example, the bones in our body.

Now, I will explain the difference between structural drawing and architectural drawing in detail.

My name is Madhanashree and I am a structural engineer.

Primary Purpose:

In architectural drawing, they define the space planning, functionality and aesthetics of a building.

In structural drawing, they ensure the strength, stability and safety of a building.

Focus:

In architectural drawing, they focus on the looks and functions of a building.

In structural drawing, they define the stability and load carrying capacity of a building.

Drawings Provided:

In architectural drawing, they give floor plan, elevations, sections, finishes, door and window schedules.

In structural drawing, they give column layout, beam layout, slab details, footing and reinforcement details.

Dimensions:

In architectural drawing, they mention the size of the room, wall thickness, openings and height of each floor.

In structural drawing, they mention the thickness of the slab, the size of the beam and column, what rod they are going to use, what spacing they are going to use and how many rods they are going to use.

Materials:

In architectural drawing, they mention the tile finishing, painting, partitions and façade detailing.

In structural drawing, they mention the concrete grade, steel grade, reinforcement and rod size.

This is the difference between the two.

In building, architectural drawing is as important as structural drawing.

In the last 12 years, we have worked on more than 250 plus projects.
